25 years and counting
Last night the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) celebrated 25 years of publicizing attrocities against journlalists by governments all over the world.
Thanks to one of my teachers, I had the honor of attending this event, where three corageous journalists from Gambia, Cuba and Yemen were recognized by many of the best in the business.
Atwar Bahjet, a celebrated Iraqi correspondent who was killed by militants was honored posthumously for her great work covering the war.
The Russian regime got a bad rap at the event. It has failed to end and solve the murders of jouranalists like Anna Politskovakaya.
The CPJ is very important, not only for us in the "truth business," but for all those interested in open societies. Press freedom is necessary for development. It must be guarded jealously.
